Velocette Studio’s injects residential design elements into this retail design for one of Philadelphia’s best known hat shops.
Long time Philadelphia retailer, Hats in the Belfry relocated from South Street Philadelphia to Center City Philadelphia, where they have revealed their new brick and mortar concept designed by Hope Velocette of Velocette Studio. From the project’s start Hope appreciated the existing stores “mom and pop” charm and used it as a springboard for the store’s new design direction.
The 900 sq. ft. environment created for Hats in the Belfry feels more like a home than a commercial retail environment. It is bright, and welcoming. Rustic wood floors, reclaimed doors, and natural wood fixture details compliment and add warmth to the clean, white space. The low joist ceiling creates a feeling of casual comfort. Kitchen islands and TV storage units inspired the stores oversized white fixtures, which provide the perfect backdrop for product and hold large quantities of back stock. Velocette Studio also styled and merchandised the store. Accessible materials, typically found in the laundry room, were used to create dynamic merchandising presentations that can easily change as new product flows through space.
